TMG stands for “Toilets Making the Grade®” and is the headline of our school competition.
While you make your school more pleasant and promote health, you can also win attractive prizes and showcase your achievements to the public and the school authorities.
Schools are offered to participate in TMG by the local government. Only in Kampala all schools can register.
The competition takes place at your school!
Yes, your team should represent different groups from your school.
The team should include school management, teachers, students, maintainers, parents and non-teaching staff. You can only participate and win with a team.
Your proposal comprises of:
1) School details: School name, school type, location and postal address, phone numbers, email and website (if available), and contact person
2) Problem analysis
The results of your self-analysis on challenges and their root causes for hygiene and sanitation (4 Senses Inspection and “Root Causes of the Problem” Exercise). Refer to step 2 on page 16 in the Competition Guidelines and have your analysis tabulated as displayed on page 17 in the Competition Guidelines.
3) Proposed solutions and their sustainability
What routines, standards, schedules and resources are you going to implement to keep toilets, washrooms and handwashing facilities functional, usable and clean over time? Refer to step 3 on page 18 in the Competition Guidelines.
Also include a list of collaborations you may need, how to motivate everyone at school to take part, and importantly who does what and when to improve hygiene and sanitation at your school long term.
4) Documentation of your self-analysis process and the implementation of your activities
Supplement your proposal with other forms of presentation content such as drawings, posters, photos (jpg format, max 10 photos, max file size 2 MB), a self-made video clip (youtube-compatible format, max 5 minutes). This can be one team picture, one picture of each activity implemented or one picture showing the snapshot of your process.
5) Team members
Add a list of your actively involved team members. Remember your team must include at least two learners (pupils/students), one school administrator, one teacher, one parent and one caretaker/cleaner.
6) Declaration
Your proposal should be signed by the school’s head teacher or a person of similar authority.
The best entries are defined as those with a coherent set of activities based on your participatory self-analysis with your complete team.
Criteria to win are:
*Teamwork*
How broad is the support for the concept at the school (participating stakeholder groups)?
*Ideas that are implementable by the school*
*Quality of the problem analysis*
Have the underlying root causes of transmission at the school been investigated?
